A 14-year-old boy named Leonard Thompson was being treated in a Canadian hospital. His blood sugar level had become very high. When he was given insulin by injection, the result was very good. Leonard’s blood sugar level returned to normal within 24 hours. This experiment caused a stir. Frederick Banting was awarded the Nobel Prize for obtaining insulin from the pancreas and its successful use.

Banting also shared the prize with his student Charles Best. After this, efforts began to produce insulin on a large scale. It is clear that many people needed a life-saving medicine. Initially, insulin was obtained from the pancreases of cows and pigs, and later insulin exactly like human insulin was prepared. To produce it on a large scale, changes were made in the DNA of microorganisms, after which these microorganisms started producing insulin like human insulin. This success was achieved in 1978. This is a great blessing of the Almighty, who gave man so much understanding and ability to discover insulin and then start producing it on a large scale.
